VIOLET MARECK

Violet graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons in Fine Art focussing on three dimensional and mixed media. In 2014 she moved to the Isle of Wight and set up her own studio space in Ryde with the aim of developing and working full time as an artist. She has exhibited regularly on the Isle of Wight with several solo shows and collaborations with other artists. More recently she has shown successfully in London galleries.

For the past four years she co-curated a gallery in Ryde Isle of Wight showing contemporary art. She is a member of the Ryde Art Collective and maintains a presence in London. She is a member of Kew Studios and commutes regularly between the Isle of Wight and London.

The reoccurring themes and imagery in Violet’s work, falling, layers, the head, diversity, memories and dreams, reflect the fragility of human existence and the underlying concern we all have about the uncertain state of our world(s). Her work created in a variety of mediums, textile hangings using hand stitching, paint and paper to create the layers of life and emotions floating around us. An ongoing project focuses on the memories and dreams stitched and embedded into our very being and how they inform our adult minds; the way we go on to live and how we treat others.

The heads have uncertain expressions partly inspired by the carnage and confusion people in war-torn countries and refugees must feel, but also those of us that are confronted by this sadness every day. The assemblages illustrate diversity and the passage of life.

There is a subtle edge to Violet’s work which has been commented on as being sensitive, unafraid of being emotive, expressive and disturbing. Her work developes constantly and attempts to be approachable, pose questions and give pause for thought.
